5 Days Tanzanian Safari
Day 1: Experience Tanzania's Cultural Diversity
Your Serengeti overland adventure begins today as you leave Arusha and head north to Karatu. Try your hand in bartering for traditional crafts and beadwork at the roadside stalls along the way.
Spend the afternoon on a fascinating trip through Tanzania's culturally-rich Mto Wa Mbu area, well-known for its estimated 120 different tribes. This is an excellent opportunity to capture some dramatic photographs of the local people and surrounding Tanzanian countryside.
Day 2: Go Back in Time in Olduvai Gorge
Wake early to set off to Olduvai Gorge, the site of the Laetoli hominid footprints and home to numerous fossils and archaeological findings. Enjoy a self-guided tour of the museum and learn about the historical impact of this area of Tanzania before visiting a local Maasai village.
Finally you'll enter the world-renowned Serengeti National Park, a vast expanse of grasslands, kopjes and forests that stretch as far as the eye can see. It soon becomes apparent why the Maasai call this place Serengeti - 'the place where the land moves on forever'.
Day 3: Explore the Serengeti National Park
The Serengeti is one of Africa's natural wonders and at over 14000sq km, one of her biggest. Set out and explore this beautiful national park; if you're there between June and November you'll witness the mighty wildebeest migration from the Serengeti plains north into Kenya's Maasai Mara.
Look out for predators. The Serengeti is known for its lions, leopards and cheetahs. Enjoy some of the most spectacular landscapes in East Africa.
Remember to have your camera handy as the changing seasons, light patterns and clouds offer some wonderful photographic opportunities.
Day 4: Descend into the Ngorongoro Crater
Leave the Serengeti plains behind and head towards the massive Ngorongoro Crater, often referred to as Africa's biggest wildlife zoo. At over 20kms across and 600m deep, the crater is an impressive sight and the numerous habitats within the caldera are home to thousand
s of animals, including the Big 5.Look out for the cloud of pink flamingoes at the edge of Lake Makat, a small soda lake in the middle of the crater and enjoy how the walls of the crater create the sense you are in a giant green and blue bowl - a beautiful sight.
Day 5: Head back to Arusha
