Mt. Longonot is a 9,111-foot volcanic mountain with a crater 600 feet deep, almost 4km in diameter and there are steam jets shooting out of the bottom of the crater. It is at least a 1hr walk to the crater rim and allows 2-3 hours for a circuit of the almost perfectly circular crater. The path is quite steep at times, so be prepared for many breaks and make sure you carry plenty of water. Mount Longonot is a Kenya Wildlife Service park and is excellently looked after. Hire a friendly ranger, if you want to lead you up and inform you about the volcano.
