Gorrila Trekking in Rwanda

Rwanda Gorilla Trekking

Gorilla trekking in Rwanda offers adventurers a remarkable opportunity to observe these magnificent creatures up close in their natural habitat. Rwanda’s conservation efforts, particularly in protecting the endangered mountain gorillas, make it an ideal destination for this unique experience.

Volcanoes National Park, nestled in the Virunga Mountains, stands out as a prime location for gorilla trekking in Rwanda. Here, visitors embark on guided treks through lush forests to encounter habituated gorilla families. The experience of being in close proximity to these gentle giants, witnessing their behavior, and observing their interactions is truly unforgettable.

To ensure participation, it’s crucial to book gorilla trekking permits well in advance. Permits are limited to minimize disturbance to the gorillas and their habitat. Additionally, maintaining good physical condition is advisable, as the treks often involve hiking through rugged terrain and dense vegetation.

Duration of the mountain gorilla trek

You’ll spend up to one magical hour with the gorillas, but this never feels long enough, so we recommend considering two treks.

No two gorilla experiences are ever the same, and a second trek offers the opportunity to track a different family in a different area of the park.

On a second trek, you’re more likely to put the camera down, relax, and enjoy the experience fully.
