Queen Elizabeth NP was officially gazetted as national park in 1952, occupying over 1978sq.kms of land area. In 1954, its name was changed from the original Kazinga National Park to currently Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Queen Elizabeth National Park protects an estimate of about 620 bird species, 10 primate species, 95 species of mammals etc. The park’s top most sought for wildlife species on a game drive include leopards, warthogs, lions (including the tree climbing lions at Ishasha sector in the Southern part), elephants, antelopes like Kobs, waterbucks and more.

Day 1: Kampala to Queen Elizabeth National Park, Kazinga Channel Boat Cruise

The journey to Queen Elizabeth National Park via the Mbarara-Bushenyi route takes approximately 6-7 hours, with a memorable stopover at the Equator crossing in Kayabwe for unique photos marking the division between the Northern and Southern hemispheres.

Upon reaching Queen Elizabeth NP, named after Queen Elizabeth of England, settle into your accommodation and savor a delightful lunch. Later, embark on a 2-3 hours’ boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel.
